R.I.P Steve Lawrence March 7th 2024
Steve Lawrence was an American singer who was born in New York City on July 8th, 1935. He initially gained fame as one half of the “Steve & Eydie” duo, alongside his wife, Eydie Gormé. They first appeared together as regulars on the 1954 TV show, “Tonight Starring Steve Allen” (and they would continue performing as a duo until Gormé’s retirement in 2009).
His biggest solo success came in the late 1950s (and early 1960s) with hits like “Pretty Blue Eyes”, “Footsteps”, “Portrait of My Love”, “Party Doll”, and the #1 hit single I chose for you today (which can be listened to by clicking on the attached link).
Apart from his music career, Steve Lawrence appeared in several television shows, including “The Carol Burnett Show” and “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson”. Alongside his wife, Eydie Gorme, the duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (in 1995).
Sadly, on Thursday March 7th 2024, Sidney Liebowitz (known professionally as Steve Lawrence) passed away (in Los Angeles) from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was 88 years of age. In memory of his passing, I have attached a link to the song he was most famous for. It was released (as a single) in November 1962. Topping the charts in both Canada and the U.S., here’s the late STEVE LAWRENCE with “Go Away Little Girl”….
