HEAVENLY BIRTHDAY FELIX MENDELSSOHN

Felix Mendelssohn was a German composer, pianist, and conductor who was born in Hamburg, Germany on February 3rd, 1809. A key contributor to the “Romantic Period” in classical music history, he’s regarded as one of the most celebrated and versatile composers of his time.

Initially born into a wealthy and cultured Jewish family, Mendelssohn’s father Abraham later had his family baptized as Lutheran Christians. This was partially decided as a way to facilitate their integration into German society.

By the age of 12, Felix composed his first symphony, and by the time he was 17, he wrote his most famous piece of work, titled, “Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

On this very day, November 4th 1847, Felix Mendelssohn died at just 38 years of age. In memory of his passing, I’ve literally chosen the oldest song I’ve ever played during my career as a DJ. Only certain people out there will appreciate my choice today but I always like to mix things up once in a while (and keep you on your toes). So hopefully, you’ll enjoy it. Completed on August 6th 1826, here’s the late FELIX MENDELSSOHN with “OVERTURE TO A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM”…
