“Eve of Destruction” By Barry McGuire
The classic ballad you’re about to hear is a 1960s protest song that shares many similar perspectives to our current state of affairs. It references many social issues of its period, including the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, Turmoil in the Middle East, and the the Threat of Nuclear War.
The American media helped popularize the song by using it as an example of everything that was wrong with the youth of the day. Due to its controversial lyrics, some American radio stations claimed it was an aid to the enemy and banned the song.
