R.I.P. BOBBY DARIN
Bobby Darin was an American singer and songwriter who explored various music genres, including Rock, Pop, Swing, and folk. Some of his biggest chart hits, include “Dream Lover”, “Beyond the Sea”, “If I Were a Carpenter”, and today’s song choice (that can be listened to by clicking on the provided link). During the 1960s, he became politically active and passionate about social issues. He was particularly involved in the civil rights movement (and was an advocate for racial equality).
In 1990, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and, in 2009, he was awarded with the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
On this very day, December 20th 1973, Walden Robert Cassotto (known professionally as Bobby Darin) died in a Los Angeles hospital after receiving open heart surgery. He was 37 years old at the time of his death. In memory of his passing, exactly 51 years ago today, I’ve chosen a classic standard that was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Released in August 1959, here’s the late, BOBBY DARIN, with “MACK THE KNIFE”….
