R.I.P. JACK RUSSELL

Jack Russell was an American vocalist, who was a founding member of the 1980’s rock band, Great White. With Russell at the helm, this group went on to score two Top 40 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The first one was “The Angel Song” which peaked at #30 in the U.S., while their biggest single, “Once bitten, twice shy” reached the #5 spot (on the Hot 100).

In 2001, Great White disbanded but continued to perform under the name “Jack Russell’s Great White”. Unfortunately, this version of the band is best remembered for a 2003 show, when their pyrotechnic effects set a Rhode Island nightclub on fire. This tragedy led to the deaths of 100 people (including band member Ty Longley).

On July 17th, 2024, Russell announced that he was retiring from touring and disclosed that he was suffering from Lewy body dementia. Nearly a month after announcing his retirement, Jack Patrick Russell died on August 15, 2024, at the age of 63. In memory of his recent passing, I’d like to pay tribute by including a song link to the bands’ biggest single. Released in 1989, here’s Great White, alongside the late Jack Russell, with “Once Bitten Twice Shy”…
