R.I.P. PHILIPPE WYNNE
Philippe Wynne was an American soul singer who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 3rd, 1941. He is best remembered for vocal contributions to the bands, Parliament-Funkadelic and The Spinners. During his time with the latter, he helped contribute to songs like “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love”, “I’ll Be Around”, and today’s song choice (that can be listened to by clicking on the provided link).
In 2023, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Spinners).
On this very day, July 14th 1984, Philippe Wynne died after suffering from a heart attack (in Oakland, California). He was just 43 years old at the time. In memory of his passing, exactly 40 years ago today, I’ve chosen a very soulful track that topped Billboard’s R&B chart. Released in April 1973, here’s the Spinners alongside the late, PHILIPPE WYNNE, with “ONE OF A KIND (LOVE AFFAIR)”….
